Automatic Construction of an Emoji Sentiment Lexicon

Abstract: Emojis play an important role in communication by expressing the sender’s emotions and sentiments. In this study, we propose an automatic method for constructing an emoji sentiment lexicon that can accommodate arbitrary sentiment categories. Experiments using Twitter posts demonstrate a strong correlation between the lexicon produced by our method and existing manually constructed lexicons. The constructed emoji lexicon is publicly available at the link below.
